i guess this is what happens when you read a lot of Poe and Lovecraft, grow up playing rock guitar, get steeped in Irish music traditions (not surprisingly, seeing as I grew up there), and choose to write songs.
I call it 'my ghost story" song. but you decide for yourself- I hope you like it!
lyrics
I wandered out in the moonlight
I heard the song of you
So I followed your chorus
into the hollow of the forest
I looked around for a long time
Thinking maybe I'm wrong
Then I saw you on the water
I shoulda run but I called out out to you
"Hey I heard you crying
Yeah I heard you singing
Now what can a mortal do
To heal the heart of a one such as you
-tell.me, now."
She floated over the water
She took my hand and I saw
Into eyes of winter blue
She said "I wished for a one such as you
You see I've been waiting a long time
I've been singing my song
But as long as I sing alone
I can never ever go home
But tell me now - if we sing it together I can go home forever. The song will be in you. In the heart of a one such as you, so tell me, now. Will you sing with me now?
Yeah we'll sing."
I stood on the water .
I sang like a lark to the moon- yes I did
I looked around
She was gone she had vanished too soon
I was alone
Now I can never ever go home
Now she's gone and I can never ever go home
But tell me, now:
If you hear me singing
If you hear me bringing my song to your ear, will you follow me out here
Tell me,now.
Will you sing with me now?
Yeah we'll sing.
Yeah you'll sing like a lark to the moon.
