A steel wind really knocks it all out of you The snow falls to the north and the south of you You say you're gonna go crazy if it don't stop soon You say you're going crazy as a loon I hear you We'll sit inside looking down into the fire Watching the flames getting higher and higher The wind blows outside the window anyway "Yeah, and that's the way to keep it " you say, "Keep it outside, we're staring out at the night. Keep it outside, we're staring at the night sky" i hear you You know that this could go on and on and on We'll just sing an indoor campfire song We'll make the rafters roar- we'll sing it some more tonight We could make the stars shine bright Baby we could make the stars shine bright Can't you see em now? You know you say you're gonna keep it outside, staring out at the night keep it outside staring at the night sky You know that this could go on and on and on We'll just sing an indoor campfire song We'll make the rafters roar- we'll sing it some more tonight We could make the stars shine bright Baby we could make the stars shine bright Yeah we could...

Where the Sunflowers Grow On a long dark night on a cold and snowy road He turned to his love and he said "Love, here we go. I'm gonna spend my life with the only love I've known since I found you where the sunflowers grow" She said " My love, you know I've always known that there's no one else I could ever call my own. We're gonna drive all night to a place that we both know - the place I found you where the sunflowers grow. They can keep their silver and keep all of their gold since I found you where the sunflowers grow." And In the morning sun In a field of yellow gold he took her in his arms and said "I'll never let you go" . And she said "My love. You know I've always known since I found you where the sunflowers grow. They can keep their silver and keep all of their gold since I found you where the sunflowers grow."

My Morning Star The cover blew onto the sand from her chilly fingered hand on a bright blue morning- the kind she'd waited for They dipped into the water, cut through the waves together. "You are my friend " she said, " lead me out beyond the Head, and I'll love you forever. I love you, my Morning Star" Under the teacup waiting, a letter on the table. From kitchen window's glow the daylight skimmed it over. A note for anyone to see. A tale as true as it was brief: "To you and all my friends: I love you all.until the end, but I'm gone out beyond the Head. Nothing to say we haven't said" The cold air curled around her heart. The seagulls' cry from oh so high above was to her ears a song of love. A lonely eye skimmed over sunset's horizon from the sand and with the back of his hand, wiped a tear away. He heard the whistling wind and smiled. Words rose up from deep inside. Out on the air they sailed . Over the ocean waves."I'll see you in the Morning Star. I'll always know just where you are. Lead me out beyond the Head. It's all been done. It's all been said. Twas on a bright blue morning. The kind she'd waited for.

He wasn't long awake before he poured another makers mark and wept The apron hung like a tapered candle The coffee on the stove went cold again He thought about calling here when all the time her parting words resound: "Oh my darling you're my finest hour, but I'm better at being lost than being found- So don't you wait for me - you'll find better company Yes my darlin' you'll be fine without me on your mind The highway hides a hundred hearts. The motel sees another sun go down Tomorrow's for the taking The horizon don't know why and it don't care how She wonders who would answer if she called the home she left so long ago Where mama took her in her arms and tried to tell her why she had to go She said Don't you wait for me - you'll find better company Yes my darlin' you'll be fine without me on your mind She leans back on the bed, lets the day run through her head before she sleeps And in the dark, that's where her heart goes hiding til the morning comes And Marylin Monroe is lying rolled up on the floor in a magazine How she wonders at her smile and how she learned to hide while being seen In the morning light she likes the drive. The wind blows through her hair of platinum blond The motel in the rear view mirror is slowly getting smaller til it's gone Don't you wait for me - you'll find better company Yes my darlin' you'll be fine without me on your mind

I wandered out in the moonlight I heard the song of you So I followed your chorus into the hollow of the forest I looked around for a long time Thinking maybe I'm wrong Then I saw you on the water I shoulda run but I called out out to you "Hey I heard you crying Yeah I heard you singing Now what can a mortal do To heal the heart of a one such as you -tell.me, now." She floated over the water She took my hand and I saw Into eyes of winter blue She said "I wished for a one such as you You see I've been waiting a long time I've been singing my song But as long as I sing alone I can never ever go home But tell me now - if we sing it together I can go home forever. The song will be in you. In the heart of a one such as you, so tell me, now. Will you sing with me now? Yeah we'll sing." I stood on the water . I sang like a lark to the moon- yes I did I looked around She was gone she had vanished too soon I was alone Now I can never ever go home Now she's gone and I can never ever go home But tell me, now: If you hear me singing If you hear me bringing my song to your ear, will you follow me out here Tell me,now. Will you sing with me now? Yeah we'll sing. Yeah you'll sing like a lark to the moon.

Jack 'Brien 05:03
One blow after another caused the rocks to fly and fall Jack 'Brien , he swung his pick- drove a hole in teh mountain wall He never raised his head. The only words you'd hear him say was "Boys, bring on the trolley. One more load for you to haul away, haul away, haul away, boys, bring on the trolley. One more load to haul away Jack 'Brien, he'd been a carpenter and a sailor and a smith and he'd oft heard told of the Rockies gold lying hidden deep within So he brought his darling Mary and the one they had on the way and he promised her a castle before his soul they'd come and haul away, haul away, haul away He promised her a castle before his soul they'd haul away Swing that pick, boys. Rise it to the stars Pray they always smile on us and find us where we are Then came that early morning and the shout from down below that said "Jack come quick. you're Mary's sick. The labor's laying her low. The doctor sent me running. He said return without delay. Just go and get Jack and bring him back before her soul they come and haul away, haul away, haul away. Go and get Jack and bring him back before her soul they haul away Jack's giant hands were gentle as he held hers to his cheek And through the tears he said "Mary dear, no castle will thee be. Unless you're right here with me I won't build and I wont stay. Hold my hand , dear Mary, or it's me they'll have to haul away, haul away, haul away, Hod y hand dear Mary or it's me they'll haul away Mary's lips grew silent. She just smiled and closed her eyes She drifted away, so the nurses say, til she heard the baby's cries She said "Jack I head the trumpets come to call on me this day but it's here I'll stay they'll have to wait for my soul to come and haul away, haul away, haul away it's here I'll stay they'll have to wait for my soul to haul away Swing that pick, Jack. Rise it to the stars Pray they always smile on us and find us where we are Now young Willie 'Brien he bides his time underneath the morning sun And with all he knows of the town below, well there's plenty to be done He kisses his darling mother and he hears his father say "Willie don't work the men too hard- you know there's always more to haul away, haul away, haul away Willie don't work the men too hard- you know there's more to haul away,

Though many tried your freedom for to gain It was a nation scared. No reasons would they hear explained And for your views you were accused, and murderers they had you called And with sentence passed they finally did rest when you were dead and gone When Sacco and Vanzetti we're gone. Though you traveled far, your words have faded none Though the voices of generations have come and gone Though they stole the breath from flesh and bone, your voices for to quell Well they tried and failed. Your words still prevail. We're keeping them alive and well. We're keeping them alive and well. For today the migrant workers sing the words that they know so well of a workers right to rise and unite- words that we heard you tell. Words that we heard you tell. So come all you working sons of a foreign land. Take heed your rights always and understand that the right to choose to air their views two men had stripped away And though they're gone their words linger on - remember your rights today Remember your rights today. For today the migrant workers sing the words that they know so well of a workers right to rise and unite- words that we heard you tell. Words that we heard you tell.

Over hills where the heather fills all your senses- that's where you'll see him And all this time with the howling wild wind against him- that's where he's been And he spends his time on the black hillside searching, or so they say And in the dark of night, you can hear him cry. And I don't know how the story goes But the folks 'round here, they claim they know. They say it just takes rain and time for a fire to die. So hold my hand. Keep the hard dry land underneath me where I'm safe and sure And hold my heart. Don't let it fall apart. We don't need another man on the moor. And I don't know how the story goes But the folks 'round here, they claim they know. They say it just takes rain and time for a fire to die.

At The End 02:49
The songs that I sing Should have told you an Easter story Of a long sweet Spring With its gold and its feasts and its glory. Of the moons then that married Green May to the mellow September, Long noons that ne'er tarried Life's hail and farewell to remember-- But the haste of the years Had rushed to the fall of our sorrow, To the waste of our tears, The hush and the pall of our morrow.

about

Tales of  long winters, undying love, gold miners' ambition, ghostly encounters and wistful wandering populate this collection, with influences ranging from traditional Irish music, Americana, Psych-rock guitars, Salif Keta, Edgar Allen Poe, HP Lovecraft and Hank Williams, these seemingly disparate voices get along just fine, making an oddly cohesive album listening experience.
