about

As most people who emigrated and/or travel a lot will attest to one thing;
No matter where you are , you're always far from someone you'd like to have closer. I wrote this one for an old friend I grew up with.

lyrics

Let's go out and paint the town any color that you want
It's been a while since we did it in style - I just haven't been around
So how've you been? How've you been keeping since I've been away?
Did you place your bets.? Are the odds all set on how long I'll stay.

Have you been keeping the lights on for me
-keeping that candle light shining on this heart of mine?

Tales to tell, saying "Well, it's a funny old world."
And, oh my lord, , did you hear me calling when I had no place left to turn
Did you play your hand - how did they land?
Did you play diamonds or hearts?
Before I go won't you let me know how you tell the two apart?

Have you been keeping the lights on for me
-keeping that candle light shining on this heart of mine?

Heaven help us if it ever hits the fan - man oh man now don't you know
Heaven, d'you think that it could ever get that bad - don't answer that.

And I know you know me too well to take what I say
and leave it down before you've found a place for it to stay
So next time 'round, you be the clown and I'll stay at home
Because we both say, on different days;
"I want to know what you know"
