about

Taken from a concert at Celtic Junction, St Paul MN on Nov 1, 2014, this is a live version of The Traveler. The studio version was recorded for the album What You Know in New Haven CT in 2007. The album featured the legendary Paddy Keenan on whistle and Uileann pipes.

lyrics

The lights in the window shining to the weary ones
There's no better feeling under a setting sun
-under a weary traveling sun.

And over the hill there's a candle in a window pane
and three weary heads are wondering when I'll get home
-each of them watching the front door

And I'm turning the corner like old Saint Nick
Struggling under a bag of tricks
and oh when the door swings wide;
the glow in the hall from the firelight
and oh when I see how my youngest has got so tall
I wish that I'd never gone at all

The next thing I know; I'm rolling 'round down on the floor
I hear myself singing "This old man he played four - he played knick knack on my front door"
The next thing I say is "Go to bed you sleepy head- if you stay up, now, he won't come at all- he won't bring any toys at all."

But their weary eyes wait up for old Saint Nick
Struggling under his bag of tricks
and oh when the door swings wide;
the glow in the hall from the firelight
and oh will he see how my youngest has got so tall
I wish that I'd never gone at all.
I wish that I'd never gone at all
I wish that I'd never gone
